Un Tartan Universal para Masones (Escoceses)

In 2004 the Grand Lodge of Utah sponsored the design and production of a tartan fabric that would represent Freemasonry in Utah as well as elsewhere. Scottish tartan plaids have been used for centuries by Scottish clans as a means of identifying and unifying families across that country. This tartan was designed with the family of Freemasonry in mind.

Anne Carroll Gilmour, an internationally known weaver specializing in traditional Scottish Tartan weaving, designed the pattern and submitted it to the Scottish Tartans Authority in Perthshire, Scotland, for registration. The pattern was deemed unique, and a Registration Certificate issued. A mill in Forfar, Scotland, was then commissioned to weave the cloth in bulk.

The colors in the cloth were carefully chosen to represent the various Masonic family organizations including but not limited to the Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shriners, Job’s Daughters, DeMolay, Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and more.

The main field of blue in a prominent pivotal position represents the dome of the universe as in Blue Lodge Masonry. The dominance of royal purple in the opposite pivotal field represents Scottish Rite Masonry, York Rite Masonry, Job’s Daughters, and many other Masonic organizations. The prominent red cross carries with it much symbolism used throughout Masonry. You will also see represented the colors of the five points of the Eastern Star, red, white, blue, green, and gold/yellow, as well as related colors connected with the Social Order of the Beauceant, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Daughter’s of the Nile, and many others.

the Ancient Toltec Rite - 100 Years of a Masonic Secret in Topeka

by John M. Karnes, 32°, KCCH A brief history of the Ancient Toltec Rite, a unique American Masonic organization for men and women. Program from a 1923 reception and dinner At first glance, the Masonic Temple on Southwest Fourteenth Street, Topeka, Kansas, doesn’t seem much different from any other Masonic building one might see across the country. However, upon closer examination, there is something unique about this building. The sign beside the door lists the times various Masonic organizations meet there—a Symbolic Lodge, the three “York Rite” bodies, an Eastern Star Chapter, a Rainbow Girls Assembly, and others. But among the organizations listed, one stands out that is not to be seen on any other Masonic building: Topeka Council, No. 1, Ancient Toltec Rite. To those familiar with the Toltec empire, which thrived around the 10th century A.D. in what is now central Mexico, Topeka seems an odd place to find an organization bearing such a name. So what is the Ancient Toltec Rite? On April 11, 1904, Charles Bard Hamilton, Clement Smith, and others met and organized the Grand Council, Ancient Toltec Rite, with Hamilton and Smith respectively as Grand Commander and Grand Secretary. The next day, with several aspirants present, the Grand Council instituted Topeka Council, No. 1 and installed its officers. On April 14, 71 aspirants were initiated into the newly formed Rite. Hamilton, who had traveled extensively in Mexico, had prepared the original ritual for the Rite in 1902. The Grand Council governs Topeka Council No. 1, the only subordinate council now in existence. The subordinate council confers three degrees: the Cloister (First) Degree, “Sisters and Brothers of Charity”; the Chapter (Second) Degree “Companions of Justice and Mercy”; and the Council (Third) Degree, “Knights and Ladies of the Holy Cross.” Membership is restricted to Knights Templar or 32° Scottish Rite Masons and women related to them. Officers of Topeka Council No. 1, Ancient Toltec Rite, 1948 The arrangement of the Lodge Room in the Cloister Degree represents the Palace at Uxmal. Part of this degree, referred to as the “Bride of the Sacred Well,” focuses on Yum Chac, rain god of the Toltecs, and the appeal of the people to him for rain to water their dying crops. The First Degree is the only time that the Toltec people are specifically mentioned in the current edition of the ritual; in the original edition (reproduced in Heredom, vol. 11), the Toltecs are not mentioned at all. Justice and Mercy are the central themes of the Chapter Degree and are portrayed, in part, by an enactment of the so-called “trial scene” from Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. The Council Degree emphasizes the importance of Truth. Early documents indicate that Hamilton had fully intended to extend the Rite into other cities and states, and councils were instituted in Omaha, Nebraska, and Ft. Scott, Kansas. There were inquires from other cities, but no other councils were formed. Eventually the councils closed in Omaha and Ft. Scott, leaving only Topeka No. 1. The Three Degrees of the Toltec Rite Cloister (First) Degree “Sisters and Brothers of Charity” Chapter (Second) Degree “Companions of Justice and Mercy” Council (Third) Degree “Knights and Ladies of the Holy Cross” Membership in the Ancient Toltec Rite has fluctuated throughout the years. A booklet published for its Diamond Anniversary in 1979 records 266 members in 1906, 537 in 1916, and 1,394 in 1927. Marie Twichell, Lady Secretary of Topeka Council, reports that in 2002 there were, again, 266 members. The Rite has been philanthropic throughout the years, assisting in the support of two French orphans in 1918 at a cost of $73 per year and contributing to various Masonic and local charities. Topeka Council No. 1 continues to gather for monthly business meetings and to plan the annual reunions when new members are initiated. In 2004 the Grand Council and Topeka Council No. 1 celebrated 100 years of existence. Many members of the Rite live in the greater Topeka area, but others are now dispersed across the United States and even into some foreign countries, so it could be supposed that the desire for the Rite to become nationwide, has at least in some way been fulfilled. La Francmasonería moderna (especulativa) nace en 1717 en Londres por lo reunión de cuatro grandes logias que crearon la primera Gran Logia: La Gran Logia Unidad de Inglaterra. En la actualidad tres de esa cuatro Logias fundadora existen : Antiquity No. 2, The Lodge of the Rummer and Grapes (ahora llamada Royal Somerset House and Inverness Lodge No. 4) y The Lodge at the Apple Tree Tavern (ahora llamada Lodge of Fortitude and Old Cumberland No. 12). Simultáneamente, le fue confiado al Pastor Anderson la tarea de actualizar las viejas bases góticas de la Orden. Esta claro que la lectura de esta frase muestra que la Mas:. funda su bases sobre la creencia de un Dios y en la tolerancia de la diversidad de creencias y religiones.

En regla general, la Mas:. Reg:., inspirada por las Constituciones de Anderson, se basa en 12 puntos :

2- La Mas:. tiene como fundamento de la Frat:. a los antiguos deberes.
3- La Mas:. recibe miembros que sean hombre libres y respetables comprometidos con los ideales de paz, amor u Frat:.
4- La Mas impulsa el perfeccionamiento de sus miembros y de la humanidad
5- La Mas:.impone a sus miembros la practica de rituales y simbolismos par el acceso a un conocimiento para una vida espiitual e iniciatica
6- La Mas:. impone a sus miembros el respeto de las opiniones y creencias
7- Los Juramentos se realizan sobre el V:.L:.S:.
8- Los MMas:. se congregan en LLog:.
9- Los MMas:. solo deben admitir hombres respetable, discretos y leales
10- Las MMas:. promueven en Log:. el amor por la patria, obediencia de las leyes, siendo el trabajo el primer deber de todo ser humano
11- Los MMas deben contribuir al brillo de la Orden.

Rudyard Kipling - breve biografia

Joseph Rudyard Kipling (Bombay, 30 de diciembre de 1865 – † Londres, 18 de enero de 1936), escritor y poeta británico nacido en la India. Autor de relatos, cuentos infantiles, novelista y poeta, se le recuerda por sus relatos y poemas sobre los soldados británicos en la India y la defensa del imperialismo occidental así como por sus cuentos infantiles.

Algunas de sus obras más populares son la colección de relatos "The Jungle Book" (1894) ("El Libro de las Tierras Vírgenes"), la novela de espionaje “Kim” (1901), el relato corto “The Man Who Would Be King” (1888) (“El hombre que pudo reinar”) publicada originalmente en el volumen "The Phantom Rickshaw" o los poemas “Gunga Din” (1892) e “If” (1895). Además varias de sus obras han sido llevadas al cine.

Fue iniciado en Masonería a los veinte años en la Logia "Esperanza y Perseverancia Nº 782" de Lahore, Punjab, India.

En su época fue respetado como poeta y se le ofreció el premio nacional de poesía Poet Laureateship en 1895 (poeta laureado) la "Order of Merit" y el título de Sir de la "Order of the British Empire" (Caballero de la Orden del Imperio Británico) en tres ocasiones, honores que rechazó. Sin embargo aceptó el Premio Nobel de Literatura de 1907 y fue el ganador del premio Nobel más joven hasta la fecha, y el primer escritor británico en recibir este galardón.

Pentacles, Wiccans and Masonry

A question that pops up from time to time on Masonic forums and in lodge has to do with the requirement of a petitioner to believe in a "supreme being" and whether Wicca qualifies as such a belief. Undoubtedly, part of the trepidation by some Masons to accept Wicca as a religion has to do with seeing inverted pentacles drawn on floors by hooded devil-worshippers in too many old Night Gallery reruns. Curiously, these same brethren generally have no problem with the inverted pentacle of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Perhaps some calm may be brought to the discussion by the news today that the Veteran's Administration has agreed to allow the Wiccan pentacle on the gravestones of fallen soldiers. The pentacle joins the list of 38 accepted religious symbols approved for headstones.

The pentacle, pentalpha or five pointed star, in truth, had no connotations of "good" or "evil" until the defrocked French abbé Eliphas Levi gave it such distinctions in the late 1800s. The pentagram first appeared more than 5,000 years ago, in Mesopotamian writings and drawings. The Babylonians used it as an astrological diagram to represent the five known planets, —Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, with Venus, the Queen of Heaven, at the top point of the star, as the Queen of Heaven. The Pythagorean Greeks used an inverted pentacle's five points to represent the Classical elements of fire, water, air, earth and idea – (or more properly, Hieron, a word meaning “divine thing.”). Modern day Wiccans and Neopagans similarly use the symbol in this a similar manner, to represent the four earthbound elements air, earth, fire, water and the “spirit.” Depending on the variety of Wicca, the symbol may appear with the point up or down.

Five has been a sacred number is a variety of religions, and the pentacle has long been a handy shorthand for those many meanings. Humans have five fingers or toes on each limb. We have five senses. Early Christians used the pentacle to describe a very wide range of concepts. Over time they have been used by Christians to describe, from the five senses and to the five wounds of Christ on the cross. Catholics have used it to describe symbolize the five “virtues of Mary” (Annunciation, Nativity, Resurrection, Ascension and the Assumption). In the 14th 14th-century Arthurian tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, it appears on Sir Gawain’s shield to delineate the five virtues of knighthood: fellowship, purity, frankness, courtesy and compassion. And Islam has its five pillars of faith.

The pentacle has occasionally appeared in the symbolism of Freemasonry in a couple of references. It’s most prominent appearance today isly as the symbol of the Order of the Eastern Star. The Order of the Eastern Star is, part of the Masonic family of related groups known as the appendant bodies. It was created in the 1850s by Freemason Rob Morris and his wife as a group that allowed both men and women to mix in a lodge-like setting. Men who are Masons may join, as well as women who are married or otherwise related to a Masons. Morris was, an inveterate lover of Masonic ritual, and so he created a ritual ceremony that was initiatory like as in Freemasonry, but was dissimilar enough that so he couldn’t be accused by Grand Lodges of making women into Masons.
He based his ritual on biblical sources. The degree ceremonies of the Order of the Eastern Star tell stories about five heroines of the Bible: Adah, Jephthah’s daughter from the Book of Judges; Ruth, the daughter-in-law of Naomi; Esther, the brave Hebrew wife of Xerxes; Martha, Lazarus’ sister, from the Gospel of John; and Electa, the “elect lady” mentioned in II John.

The pentacle as it is used in the Order of the Eastern Star represents the Star of Bethlehem, and the points of the star refer to the biblical heroines. Chapter rooms are traditionally laid out with a large floor cloth or carpet representing the pentagram and its star points. At the center of the symbol stands an altar with an open Bible open upon it.

Apart from its use in the Order of the Eastern Star, the pentacle – right-side- up or inverted – does not officially appear in Masonic ritual or symbolism – at least not in the U.S. Some “tracing boards” appeared in the early 1800s that contained five-pointed stars with a “G” in the center as a symbol of both God and of the knowledge of geometry. Other researchers have suggested that it may have represented a portion of the Master Mason degree ritual, the “Five Points of Fellowship.” But it was not a common symbol and has not survived in widespread use.

Perhaps Luis Buñuel's most surreal and allegorical film, there is one scene where, in a crowded room, two characters give each other what appears to be the sign of the Fellowcraft degreee [00:18:00]. Later one asks the other for the name of his lodge. The other replies that it is Dawn Lodge No. 21. At a later point, one of the men lets out a cry that another man then explains is the masonic call for help. [01:18:00] While these two are specific masonic references, the story itself can be interpreted as a rebirth or resurrection story incorporating sacrifice and ritual.
